South Poll of the Phoenix! (That… actually sounds kinda wrong…) by Aust Kyzor
April 6, 2011, 5:38 am
Filed under: News, Projects, The Pogotribe Update

Hey guys! Aust here!

So – while the D3P0 section didn’t get lynched – Dan kinda lynched D3P0 – so grah. NOT what I’m here to talk about though.

I’m here because, if people still check the SPOTM blog – we’re in a bit of a rejuvination. Local troll and resident asshole Asher, AKA bombmaniac – in the wake of getting IP-banned, managed to not only hack the admin account, but post as Dan and kick-start a rejuvination project. After a bit of a fumble and Zang getting demoted, the project is underway.

A new sub-section was made in Projects – Go check it out!

Also – since the rejuvination and the (promised) return of Dan will likely get us more active members and traffic – the management decided to hire new mods, and admins. Right now we are modless and the (active) Admin staff consist of Rob, Erin, Jean (aka UnfairBear – newly promoted), OtherRob (aka newschooled – also newly promoted), and RadicallyBlue (sorta newly promoted – he’s the new Webmaster).

Now, since we no longer have moderators, the management is currently holding moderator elections. That can be found here.

I’m not petty – so I’m not going to promote myself here – it’d be slightly unfair since I’m the only candidate with access to this blog’s dashboard. I will, however say this: You should vote for Asher.

In fact – Asher shouldn’t be on that list – he should already be a moderator. This who rejuvination and second life is thanks to Asher, and there probably isn’t anybody who cares about the moon more then him at this point.

Also – There’s been talk about renewing Triads – I joined the moon after they pretty much died – so I’m totally confused about them, and staying out of it until it sorts itself out.

Also, also – project plugging time!

And that’s all I’ve got for now – have a nice day.

Alright PogoTribe – I’ve had the chance to actually think this through without the influence of painkillers.

Aust has some things to say.

Now, as is generally accepted, the Moon has died, risen, and is now lurching around very zombie-like. Christine O’Donnell has infiltrated our ranks, and is disguising herself as one of us. The Old Spice Guy is, well, he’s just there.

Dan Brown (not the author) started the forum as a part of Dan 3.0 – and as a group of people – like the Nerdfighters, but without the Vlog Brothers – doing projects to decrease worldsuck. A noble cause, sure, but at the same time, it seems, to me anyways, to be a Ning wannabe.

Dan has abandoned us – he may come back at the end of D3P0, but as it stands, he’s not a part of us anymore.
And he’s taken most of the forum with him.

All that’s left is us: The PogoTribe – the people who joined, for the most part, thanks to Dan’s influence – but who remained in the wake of the exodus of people leaving.

Just a quick roll-call – the people who I know are active, and hanging around all over the place:

  • Aust (obviously)
  • Alex (sorry!)
  • Rob
  • Eirn
  • Zang
  • Imposter Rob (newschooled)
  • Jean
  • Jackson
  • Swim
  • Flappy
  • Ryan
  • Imposter Ryan (aka ryan – change your display name and avatar man)
  • Sara
  • Nancy
  • Freddy

and MAYBE Lex, James, and Bombmaniac

But there it is – the 14 of us are the most active members, it’s less a forum, and more a club. A very awesome club, but a club none-the-less. This isn’t to say that we aren’t the only actives – but we’re the ones that are in every section, contributing to pretty much every discussion.

We are The PogoTribe – and we are not a group comprised of Dan Brown’s fans and viewers. We are our own.

So, here’s my question – do we Keep Strong and Carry On waiting for Dan? Or do we take the Moon, and make it our own, and give up on Dan?

And if we make it our own, how do we go about it?

Either way – I say, as I have before, and will continue to say until it happens.

Lynch the Dan 3.0 section!

Hello Moon!

I have recently started a blog/website called Walrus Noise. It’ll be a collection of art, articles, essays and short fiction with an emphasis on good writing. I know that we’re a creative bunch, so I know some of you have original work that’s just dying to be shared. If you’d like to submit something, send it to submissions.walrusnoise@gmail.com . More information can be found on the Walrus Noise Blog and in the (kind of) official thread.

Thanks! 🙂

Aust Kyzor’s Happy Fun Game Plug! by Aust Kyzor

Hey World!

I’ve decided that I want to make use of the blog to let the pogotribe know of some fun games that people should play and enjoy.

So, let’s start off with simple – a pipe-dream-esque puzzle game!

I present: Liquid Measure 2 (because LM 1 sucks and shouldn’t be played)

Game play is simple: you’re given a value of water in whatever unit, and you have to get units of water from the dispensers into the jars – each jar has a number which corresponds to how many units of water will fit in the jar. On each level there are a number of mobile and immobile objects to manipulate in order to get all the water stored without spilling a drop.

Normally this is where I’d issue a challenge, or whatever – but it’s not a high-score based game. So, instead – I leave it there for you. If you want a challenge, well, Kongregate has achievements for it – so have fun there.

I think, in order to keep me writing, I’ll do these on a weekly basis – not just online flash games either – we’ll have stuff that requires installation too.

Until then, Aust Kyzor OUT!

Oh – and Blood Drive

A Letter to the Moon by Brennan McCracken

Dear Moon,

Moon, I am sorry. I’m sorry I haven’t been around very much lately. But I have my reasons. You know what the holidays are like, right? They’re spent doing things with your family and cherishing the ones you love. Eating and laughing and telling stories and just having an all-around good time. Yes Moon, I do love you too. And I do cherish you. Sometimes. However, I just haven’t been able to find much time to devote to you. For that, I am truly sorry. I’ll make it up to you. My project is on track to bring us many new PogoTribians. You like new people, right? I’m sure you do. You’re so good at welcoming them. Moon, you won’t be disappointed.

And the blog. I have been sort of slacking off around here too. Moon, have you ever written for a blog? Maybe you have. If so, you probably already know how hard it is to find inspiration. I’ve been puttering around for the past two weeks, straining to think of an interesting topic. Now, when I finally decide to sit down and write, all I can write about is how I have nothing to write about. How lame is that? I tried, Moon, I really tried. I browsed hundreds of blogs and read several books, searching the text for thoughtful sentences and insightful prose. Yet, here I am, still lacking inspiration. Sort of.

At least I am writing you this letter. That counts for something, right? It’s got to. Some may view this letter as a piece of rubbish. (I love how British that word sounds.) However, I don’t think it is. If someone told me one year ago that I’d be writing a letter to a website, I’d call them crazy. If someone told me today that I’d be writing a letter to a website, I’d still call them crazy. Because, Moon, you are so much more than a website. You’re a entire community filled with fascinating and inspiring individuals. You’re a creative outlet. You’re an escape from reality, a place where you can be whoever you want to be.

Looking back on the past year, We’ve both changed. For better or for worse, we’ve changed. While I may not have made a huge impact on you’re existence, Moon, you’ve made such an impact on mine. The ways in which you’ve affected me are too numerous to list, however, I can safely say that you’ve changed me for the better. Evolving over the past year, neither of us knew which pathways we would take or where they would lead us. Where we re now is completely different from where we were a year ago, or where we thought we’d be. We’ve had our ups and our downs, and we’ve grown as a result of both. Moon, this past year has been the best year of my life, partly in thanks to you. I hope that you can say the same.

So, as 2010 winds to a end, we are left with an unbelievable opportunity. We can look back and reflect on the past 365 days.  We can remember all of the things we’ve accomplished, all the places we’ve been. We can comment on our growth.  And we can look into the future, anxiously awaiting what is to come. Moon, I hope that this time next year I will be able to write to you again, remembering all of the good things that we’ve done in the year to come. Moon, here’s to a great 2010 and an even greater 2011.

Sincerely,

Blood! Blood! Gallons of the stuff! by Aust Kyzor

Hey Moon! Aüst here. Yes, that’s how it’s supposed to be spelled.

Today I’m here to talk to you about blood.

Did you know that a single donated unit of blood can save up to three people? You do now!

I started a project – it’s still in the planning stages at the moment – but it’ll soon take off. What began as a month-long blood drive has become a year-long blood drive (if it all works out). The way it works is thus: if you can donate, then donate. Try to start as close as you can to January 1st, and every 56 days, donate a unit of blood. If you want, leave a greeting from SPOTM at the clinic – but it’s not necessary. Every time you donate, there will be a Google docs form to record the donations, and December 31st, 2011, I will compile the results, and will share them with the moon for display at your nearest permanent blood clinic. The results will show how many people donated, how many units of blood were collected, and how many lives were potentially saved.

SO! Do your research. Are you allowed and able to donate? If so, you should participate in this!

And… much as I dislike this – if you absolutely MUST have recognition, I’ll go about making an award for participating, or something.

This is a pretty ambitious project – but it’ll be worth the decreased World-Suck in the end.

The project thread is here

Aüst Kyzor, OUT!

‘Tis the Season by Brennan McCracken

Well, the holidays are just around the corner, and there are plenty of projects on the Moon that could certainly use a helping hand. In my inaugural SPOTM Blog post, I’d like to highlight a few of my favourites.

Okay, I may be a bit biased, but the SPOTM QR Code Poster Project could use some  poster design submissions. The project was created by yours truly, and the idea is to spread the word about SPOTM using posters with a QR Code on them. The goal is to have five different designs submitted by the end of the year. After that, voting will take place to determine which design will be distributed worldwide.

Do you like receiving gifts? Are you on the SPOTM List of Active Members? Then sign up  for Freddy’s Secret Santa! If you sign up by this Friday, you will be guaranteed either an inexpensive digital gift or a personally-designed graphic. However, if you sign up, you must also return the favor. You will find out your recipient this weekend and you can find out where their interests lie in the Describe Yourself for Santa thread.

And finally, what would the holiday season be like without a little bit of giving back? That’s right, Project for Awesome is back, and this year SPOTM members are coming together to create a collaborative video. The video should be posted on the 17th, so we have a lot of work ahead of us. Read more about it here, or sign up to help with the project here. The charity that we have chosen is called Child’s Play. They are an awesome charity that distribute toys, games, books, etc. to kids in more than seventy hospitals worldwide. I personally love the idea because the children can actually feel and see what the charity is doing for them. Let’s not let any sick kids go unhappy this holiday season. I know that the PogoTribe can come together and create a really fan-freakin-tastic video for P4A.

What brought me to the moon:

My first impressions of the moon:

First I thought they’d punch me for being a noob, but then I loved the place… =D

A little about me:

I’m just an attention-seeking, cynical, skeptical, corny, bulbous dude who can’t decide if what I’m doing matters and if what matters is worth doing.

What brought me to the moon:

Actually, I joined the moon after Dan’s Open Letter to Educators because I similarly dropped out of graduate school around the same time. I was looking for people who were talking about it on a forum and I finally joined. This is actually quite humorous considering how drastically my reasoning for being on SPOTM has changed.

My first impressions of the moon:

It’s a totally awesome and welcoming community full of great people.

4 word sentence: When in doubt, doubt!

A little bit about me:

What brought me to the moon:

I have been a regular Dan Brown follower for a long time now, and when he created this forum, I quickly signed up.

My first impression of the moon:

When I joined, I thought it was a really awesome place with people committed to change the world, but as people started leaving it, I realized that the moon isn’t only that, but a community that wants to grow strong, whichever the circumstances are. Although we haven’t changed the world yet, I feel we’re going in the right direction.

I like it. 🙂

4 word sentance: Why should I? Huh?

If you met Sarah Palin, what would you say?

OMIGOSH IT’S SARA PALIN!!!!

BAI. And I’d slam the door in her face. 😛

Which sections of the forums do you visit most and why?

The anything and everything section, because it’s the most active one.

Add this question: What did you think of this form?

My social media:

Youtube (frcepeda)

Facebook (frcepeda)

Flickr (frcepeda)

You get the idea 😛

If you don’t find me there as that, you can try with frcepeda45. That should work. 🙂

Age: 18

I’m from: Vancouver, BC, Canada

A little about me:

I’m young and concerned with significant world issues. I hope to have a positive influence in solving them.

What brought me to the moon:

To talk with people that have similar interests.

My first impressions of the moon:

I can’t even remember.

The sections of the forum I visit most:

Debate Club, A&E, YouTube and the Internets, and the Projects section. They have the most activity.

4 word sentence: This is not creative.

What I would say to Sarah Palin:

Make me a sammich, woman!

Add this question: Have you ever participated in a project? If yes, would you participate again?

Brandon Rogers (Rogers91)

Age: 19

I am from: VA, USA

A little bit about me:

I am a dude who works at a store and really hates every thing about his job. I go to college and have no idea what I want to do with my self. A dream of mine has been to go into politics. I love Star trek and Doctor Who and Stargate and just about any other science fiction. Uhh yeah I dont know is there anything else… probably..

What brought me to the moon:

Dan Brown told me to go to the moon and as a zombie I decided to visit. Then I was traped and uhh yeah. They wont let me leave. Please help or at the least send food…

My first impressions of the moon:

Awesome, amazing, and briliant. All around it is one of the best places to go when I am bored.

The sections I visit the most:

The RPG sub forum of the Games section and the Debate Club to yell at Rialvestro. I am the game master of the wall revenge in the rpg section.

4 word sentence: I love Star Trek

If I met Sarah Palin, I would say: ohh hey you know you look just like my mom but old…

Add this question: Do you always come to a complete stop at stop signs?

My social media:

All my social site stuff can be found HERE

What brought me to the moon:

Dan EFFING brown did. I was just like most of us a regular DB subscriber and when he announced he had made an EPIC forum and explained everything in his ‘Tribe’ video, I thought I’d check it out and for some strange reason I never left (BTW this happened in December 2009 🙂 )

My first impressions of the moon:

I was thinking: ‘AWESOMESAUCE’ after reading some of the threads and introduced myself in the ‘introduction’ thread (o yesh..back in the day it was only 1 thread where one introduced oneself ) [link:http://www.southpoleofthemoon.com/viewtopic.php?p=7971#p7971%5D

Sections of the the forum I visit most:

Forum Games – ENTERTAINMENT 😀

Anything & Everything – random threads R random

Introduccíons – #WelcomeCookies duh..

Projects and Halp PLS – checking whether I can help

Most of the time, I just check the ‘Last Post’ thingy and sometimes I continue visiting all the sections 🙂

4 word sentence: Wanna have a #cookie?

If I met Sarah Palin, I would say: ‘Who are you again?’

Add a question to the list: Pirates or Ninjas?

My social media:

@Ferre_ (Twitter)

Nick (iamnthomas)

Name: Nick

Age: 21

I am from: East Lansing, Michigan

A little bit about me:

I am a 21 year old college student. I am studying Geography and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. I have over 110 GBs of music in my iTunes library which means if you started playing all the music today – it would finally be finished playing each song 2 months later. Music helps me get through those long study sessions and just gives me something to do when I’m bored. Sports are a big deal to me. I am an avid Michigan State University SPARTANS basketball and football fan. (Please don’t get MSU confused with University of Michigan) If you want to talk sports get at me!

What brought me to the moon:

I’ve been watch Dan Brown’s videos for quite some time now and often lurked on SPOTM. Dan 3.0 motivated me to join SPOTM to start speaking my mind and defending Dan in his project because I felt like he was taking too much heat.

My first impressions of the moon:

The moon? You mean the actual moon? I think the moon is quite nice. It provides us with the great sensation of oceanic tides. I would like to go there some day and take some moon rocks back with me. The moon as the SPOTM? I think it has great potential. I was a lurker for the first year it was around. The whole premise behind triads and the projects is really cool – I just feel like people need to become more involved. Like I said, the potential is there.

The sections of the forum I visit the most:

I find myself visiting the Dan 3.0 section a lot just because it has to do with Dan Brown’s major project. (Which is what brought me to the moon in the first place) I hope to get more involved with some triads and some other projects in the future.

4 word sentence: You WON the game.

If I met Sarah Palin, I would say:

Hey Sarah. Why did you name your children such weird names? Track, Willow, Bristol, Piper? Really? Piper isn’t terrible but it seems like you are just an attention whore by naming your kids such off beat names. Also, how do you feel about the porn industry using your image? Hows Alaska?

Add this question:

Open the closest book to you. Open to page 127 and go 2 paragraphs down. Write the 3rd sentence in that paragraph down here.

My social media:

@Iamnthomas (Twitter)

Iamnthomas (Youtube – videos coming soon)

Look out for next weeks Introducing section to meet some new members. 😉
